Clifford Orji’ the Lagos cannibal dies in prison

Clifford Orji the man dubbed the lagos cannibal who was arrested in 1999 for roasting and eating human flesh has died in prison aged 46.

The Lagos State Command of Nigeria Prisons said on Sunday that the cause of death of Clifford Orji, an inmate, was being investigated by its medical team.

Prison officials say the cause of dead is yet unknown ‘ as the doctors have not discovered any so far.’

Clifford, an alleged ritualist and cannibal, died in Kirikiri maximum prison, where he was an inmate for over thirteen years, in the early hours of Friday, Aug. 17 while asleep.

His bodyhad been deposited in a mortuary in Lagos after his death.

Clifford was arrested under the bridge at Toyota Bus-stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos with human parts. Police said he pretended to be mad after his arrest He was also caught eating some of the parts which he had roasted.
He was subsequently charged before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, but died while awaiting trial.

    13 years in Prison without Trial??? Very sad indeed. I keep imagininig the number of innocent Nigerian s who are rotting away in prison for years still awaiting trial.
    Our Judiacial system need.s seRious overhaul. Human rights Organistions, where are you ??

    its appaling that in today,s world, a country like nigeria could keep people in prison äwaiting trial forever” its such a shame that the goverment is allergic to any form of progress. shame
